How Did We Get Here?

It’s no mystery that last year was an overall disappointment… We had a QB that was set to break almost all of the School’s QB records,  WR, TE, and RB rooms with a lot of speed, a proven OC that came in with a serious hype machine, a defense that was deep enough to keep us in any game… The question that kept us from making a bowl ultimately… Can we block anyone? The answer to that question is a resounding no… Last year was one of the worst offensive performances of recent memory, despite records, deservingly so, changing names in history.  The hype going into the year turned into disaster as the year unfolded and we didn’t make a bowl, the star RB and QB transfer out, the OC was fired, the team seemingly quit or just couldn’t compete in several games.

Areas to Watch

1. Can we block anyone on the Offensive Line This off season the Hogs have parted ways with the line coach from last year and brought in Coach Mateos and The Head Hog himself Sam Pittman has taken on a more hands on role to coach up the men in the trenches.
2. How is Bobby Petrino at OC We have seen him as the Head Hog and he let himself get into an embarrassing and illegal situation that cost him his job, hurt the University’s reupation and wrecked his motorcycle… We saw him first hand bring in Missouri State and give the Hogs everything they could handle. Most recently he road the ship down with Jimbo at A&M, but he has a fantastic offensive mind.  How will he mesh with Coach Pittman and coach up his offense?
3. New Additions to the offense We had a record holding QB in KJ Jefferson transfer to UCF in Orlando and a world class RB in Rocket Sanders transfer to South Carolina to be closer to his son. Some might argue that amazingly enough this may be addition by subtraction… KJ didn’t look like the OG KJ and Rocket barely played last year. With these two leaving for better situations for themselves, we got a Boise State transfer QB, Green, with fast running, and a strong arm. Can Green be the next Lamar Jackson in the Petrino offense?
4. Will the defense fill in the holes that left for the transfer portal? The transfer portal giveth and the transfer portal taketh… The Hog’s Defense saw some LBs and DBs hit the road. Will the young guys that started to push out some of the guys that left step up and run Coach Williams and Coach Woodson’s defense?  That side of the ball has shown me that they will coach up the guys and do what it takes to win. I don’t have as many concerns on that side of the ball.
